The last few weeks has been most exciting in my life. God has sent cash, by people, to take care of some bills and saved me from multiple disconnections and even eviction. After God did this, He turned around and blessed me with a platform to preach His Gospel AND a way to generate a revenue. I have been totally in awe of His mighty work the past week or so; it’s been so astounding.
In the midst of being awe struck by first His forgiveness, His mercy and then His grace, I couldn't believe all of this was happening to ME!!!
Many of you don't know my back story, but I was a teen parent, pregnant by the age of 15. I went on to stay in a completely, utterly emotionally, and a couple of times, physically abusive relationship for years after that. What’s crazy is that after being in this type of relationship and having two children.....
I went on to marry that same guy. At that point, I went on to endure a few more years of this same behavior. At 23, I was the mother of five children with only a GED. I had gone to several schools but never completed any of them. Needless to say, I suffered years of depression because life seemed totally hopeless for me. I remember at one time saying that I thought I was destined for failure. So this brings us up to today. Why has God chosen me? In my question of it this week, the phrases “God wants the glory” repeated itself in my spirit. It immediately made me happy and privileged to be the object of God working in this realm so He can get the glory. However, soon after the question “What is Glory?” came up. See, we hear these statements made throughout church's all over in the midsts of a heated sermons telling of God's blessings and all over the church; however, I don't ever remember it being explained what this meant. It further confused me because Glory seemed to be used several different ways. So this brought me to further research the word.
In my research, I found that “glory” is used 400 times in the King James Bible with 20 different definitions.
How did we conclude that God wants Glory?
The first time I noticed it was in Isaiah 48:11
“For mine own sake, [even] for mine own sake, will I do [it]: for how should [my name] be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.”
God was ticked, particularly, with the tribe of Judah. Why? Well, they had rebelled (Isaiah 48:1-20), once again. This particular use of the word “glory,” in the Hebrew, is defined as:
1) glory, honour, glorious, abundance
a) abundance, richesb) honour, splendour, glory
c) honour, dignity
d) honour, reputation
e) honour, reverence, glory
f) glory
What stood out the most in my mind was “reputation.” The new living translation of Isaiah 48:11 reads
I will rescue you for my sake—
yes, for my own sake!
I will not let my reputation be tarnished,
and I will not share my glory with idols!
yes, for my own sake!
I will not let my reputation be tarnished,
and I will not share my glory with idols!
God’s interest at this point was delivering them from Babylon---for HIS own reputation’s sake. I strongly encourage you to go and read this chapter, so you can get an understanding of what He means. But long story short, God spoke these things through the prophet Isaiah because He didn't want Judah to attribute their freedom from Babylon to the false idols that they began to worship. Judah still professed and called on the name of the of the Lord (Isaiah 48:1,2) while doing some pretty adulterous things and he had made some promises to their fore fathers. This compelled God to not only honor his word but his name.
We, as humans, put great emphasis on our integrity. Most of us are very cautious with what and who our names are associated. When our names are associated with something, we go above and beyond to make sure the person, event or thing its associated with exceeds the reputation of which your name carries. I can tell you that we get it from our Daddy. If God had failed to deliver Judah in this instance, his reputation as the Great I Am, The Deliverer, The Almighty God would have been tarnished. God was not going to have that.
The mention of this type of Glory was mention in Malachi 2:2
(King James Version)
2If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith the LORD of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart. Here, God was angry with the Levites, the priests. Why? The priests had strayed, and God says in Malachi 2:8 and 9 that their instructions had caused many to stumble into sin, and they showed favoritism in the way they carried out God's instructions.
Again, these priests where set apart as the messengers of God. They carried His name, and the people came to them for the knowledge of God. But they began doing things that didn't bring Honor to that title, and yet God's reputation was at stake. He serves a harsh warning that included throwing them in “poo.” I admit I found it funny but I don't think it would be as funny if God began to drop “poo” from heaven.
And the last verse I am choosing to use is the last line of the prayer that Jesus taught the disciples. I am not going to go into it because that is another blog in itself, but Jesus was God with us. Jesus was with God in the beginning and was sent down to become a perfect sacrifice. So who better to know the will of the Father than the living word that was from the beginning?
Matthew 6:13 (King James Version)
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. This Glory is a bit different its Hebrew word is doxa which means.
1) opinion, judgment, view
2) opinion, estimate, whether good or bad concerning someone
a) in the NT always a good opinion concerning one, resulting in praise, honour, and glory
3) splendour, brightness
a) of the moon, sun, stars
b) magnificence, excellence, preeminence, dignity, grace
c) majesty
1) a thing belonging to God
a) the kingly majesty which belongs to him as supreme ruler, majesty in the sense of the absolute perfection of the deity
2) a thing belonging to Christ
a) the kingly majesty of the Messiah
b) the absolutely perfect inward or personal excellency of Christ; the majesty
3) of the angels
a) as apparent in their exterior brightness
4) a most glorious condition, most exalted state
a) of that condition with God the Father in heaven to which Christ was raised after he had achieved his work on earth
b) the glorious condition of blessedness into which is appointed and promised that true Christians shall enter after their Savior’s return from heaven
But again, Definition 4 a most glorious condition, most exalted state.
In order for anyone to stay in a position where they are most exalted and glorious is to have an intact reputation.
God wants to show off through His Children. For those who will trust, obey and step out on His Word, He will work mightily through them. Jeremiah 1:12 says that “I will hasten my Word to perform it.” The definition of hasten is 1. Be quick to do something. 2. Move or travel hurriedly. And the Amplified version of that same verse says “for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.” So this is what I say to you, If God has given you a word, the permission to step out on it and the opportunity--- Go for it. He cares about his reputation, He cares about you and will not let you fail for stepping out on his word. Not only has He quickened it, but He is watching to bring it all to past in your life. You don't need a lot of time, you just need to be obedient because ultimately not only does He want the Glory, but He will get it.
These are all principles tied to Kingdom Living and unless you are apart of the Kingdom of God these rules don't apply to you, however that is fixable. The only requirement to be apart of God's Kingdom is to accept that Jesus, God's only begotten son, was sent to be our redeemer from the sin that had overtaken the earth. If Jesus had not done this we would all be destined to hell with no hope but today, if you confess with your mouth and believe with your heart that Jesus not only died for our sins but rose again 3 days later and is seated at the right hand of the Father to reign forever more, you will become a child of God and have access to the inheritance that was left for us. If your ready to make that decision today simply say this prayer:
Dear Father,
I now believe that Jesus Christ is Your only begotten Son, that He came to our earth in the flesh and died on the cross to take away all of my sins and the sins of this world. I believe that Jesus Christ then rose from the dead on the third day to give all of us eternal life.
Lord Jesus,
I now confess to You all of the wrong and sinful things that I have ever done in my life. I ask that You please forgive me and wash away all of my sins by the blood that You have personally shed for me on the cross. I am now ready to accept You as my personal Lord and Savior. I now ask that You come into my life and live with me for all of eternity.
Father, Jesus – I now believe that I am truly saved and born again.
From My Heart to Yours
Renetha
Renetha, I'm glad to have read your blog today. How often do I profane the name of God Almighty by my actions, words, and thoughts? Paul wrote in Romans (to the Jewish Christians) that the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of them (Rom 2:24). Wow - that always hits me hard. Do the lost around me blaspheme God and reject His truth because of my sin, my attitude, or my failure to walk in His grace? The way I live has a direct affect on God's reputation.
ReplyDeleteI pray for Joshua's heart. In Joshua 7, the Israelite army is defeated by Ai, and Joshua is inconsolable. In verse 9, it is evident that Joshua's heart-cry is wrapped up in the damage this has done to God's "great name." Because of the Israelite army's sin, God's great name had been profaned among the pagans. God had become the laughing stock of the region. I need to put myself in check this morning... is my focus on my own reputation, or on God's? Am I building His reputation or mine? Am I seeking His glory, or my own? As a direct result of my lifestyle, is God being truthfully proclaimed, or laughingly dismissed?
Thank you for this reflection this morning. I am blessed to have read it.
